Twice-daily game drives: There is just so much to offer in the wild Kariega safari. It is the big five, there are elephants, lions, buffalo's, leopards, rhinoceros, hippopotamus, and giraffes which are usually top tourist attractions.

Reviving Indigenous Voices:  The Nama language from the indigenous Khoi and San people has strong and roots in Kariega hence the name of the town. So you get to see and experience part of this rare minority cultural group in South Africa. 

In a powerful cultural initiative, Khoi and San youth gathered in Kariega on July 18, 2025, for a Nama language holiday workshop. Hosted at Gamble Street Secondary School, the event marked a significant step in restoring indigenous languages and cultural pride. Led by the Pan South African Language Board, the workshop aligns with national efforts to elevate indigenous tongues to official status.

Did you know that every Volkswagen Polo GTI in the world is born in Kariega? The VW Kariega plant, a sprawling facility covering over 518,000 square meters, is the sole global manufacturer of the Polo GTI. With over 3,500 employees, it’s not just a factory—it’s a powerhouse of precision and pride.

The plant produces over 700 vehicles daily, shipping them to Europe, Asia-Pacific, and beyond. It does not end with the Polo GTIs, even latest Volkswagen brands are manufactured daily in the plant. 

🍊 Citrus innovation at its Core



Just outside Kariega lies the Citrus Foundation Block (CFB), the beating heart of South Africa’s citrus industry. This biosecure facility supplies over 80% of the country’s certified disease-free rootstock seed and scion budwood. It’s a sanctuary of agricultural excellence, ensuring the health and sustainability of citrus orchards nationwide.

Tourism is one of the biggest economic driving factors for the small town. With its big five and beaches alone they attract international visitors with wildcoast experience.
